The Hopf link is a very simple knot which succumbs happily to the concept of homeomorphism; two alike objects can be considered the same even if one is distorted, stretched and changed out of recognition. As long as neither has been cut, ripped or any holes punched in them, to a topologist one is identical to the other. I’ve had many, many absorbing hours distorting Hopf links.
