I have been fascinated by things topological since I was a child. There were coffee cups that morphed into doughnuts, curious bottles that turned inside themselves, 2-dimensional objects masquerading as 3-dimensional objects, flat planes with no edges and something called 4-space where intriguing things happened. I would like to pay tribute to my mathematician father, John G. Hocking, who long ago inspired me with his enthusiastic often gleeful, demonstrations and explanations of Möbius strips, Klein bottles and other strange topological creatures. The foreign landscape of topology, with its elusive grace and beauty, is a wonderful place for an artist to explore.
